They say “good things grow in Ontario.” The sport of curling sure is one of those good things—and it’s something to be celebrated for the province’s 150th birthday.
On November 18, curlers across Ontario are competing in dozens of bonspiels to celebrate the rich history of the sport, clubs in the north and south, and curling’s contributions to communities all over the province.
The Great Ontario Bonspiel is a bonspiel that will be scattered at various Ontario clubs, a list that includes a handful of Toronto rinks.
While some competitors will be as far north as North Bay Granite Club and others as south as Grimsby Curling Club, Ontarians will be united with the help of the Ontario Curling Council’s (OCC) coordination.
Put simply, it’s a province-wide bonspiel birthday party!
Annandale Golf & Curling Club, Bayview Golf & Country Club, Brampton Curling Club, Dixie Curling Club, Toronto Cricket Skating & Curling Club and Weston Golf & Country Club are hosting their own separate Great Ontario Bonspiel competitions. Check out the “Club Events” section of our website for more information on registration into select events: www.torontocurling.com/events/#club
The OCC, a recipient of the Ontario 150 Community Celebration Grant, is overseeing the theme (Ontario’s milestone birthday) of the event, helping each club develop their event through marketing videos and providing all the winners with a customized prize.
Does your club want to get involved? Do you want to curl?
