Congratulations are in order for a handful of Toronto curlers who competed in the TCA Goldline Men’s Curling Championships – one of the world’s largest and oldest men’s curling tournaments – over the weekend.
Between January 13-20, 2018, hundreds of competitors curled in the competition’s 123 event at clubs across the GTA, from High Park Curling Club in the west end to Unionville Curling Club in the north-east end.
The Goldline Curling-sponsored event is open to all male recreational curlers. Nearly 1,000 curlers competed on more than 200 teams in divisions including Open, Senior, Masters and Grandmasters.
And while the event is good fun, four teams, the winner of each division, walked away with bragging rights:
- Skip Brent Ashley, of Leaside Curling Club, and his team won first place in the Open division (age 19+).
- Skip Bruce Webster, of the Oakville Curling Club, and his team won first place in the Seniors division (age 50+).
- Skip Mike Tambosso, of Richmond Hill Curling Club, and his team earned first place in the Masters division (age 60+).
- Skip Gerry Giddings, of the Oshawa Curling Club, and his team won first place in the Grandmasters division (age 70+).
Special recognition also goes out to the main event consolation teams: Richmond Hill Curling Club’s Team David MacMurdo (Open) and Unionville Curling Club’s Greg Nelson (Seniors).
A list of all event winners (from the main event to the fourth event winners) can be found on our website here: https://www.torontocurling.com/events/goldline-tca-mens-bonspiel/#evtab6
Way to represent the GTA, curlers!
Thanks to all the curlers, clubs, fans and icemakers who made the 123rd TCA Goldline Men’s Curling Championships a rock-solid way to start off 2018.
