The GTA Bantam Interclub League was created in 1980/81. The league is intended to provide young curlers with an opportunity to experience competitive curling and have an enjoyable time doing it. Run by the continuing participation of parents and other interested parties, the league is not affiliated with any curling association. Participation in the league is open to any club that, in the opinion of the present participants, would be an appropriate member. (The key considerations would be distance to travel and ability to host league games at an appropriate time.). In March 2009, the league came under the umbrella of the TCA and is now known as the TCA Bantam Inter-Club League.
Experience indicates that the curlers are very serious about these games and the range of curling expertise varies greatly. Inexperienced teams should be encouraged to enter the league and we have found that most teams entering the league have an exaggerated view of how competitive the league really is. Competition in the GTA Mixed Interclub League is not much different than would be found in a normal Bantam bonspiel, i.e., there are good teams and not so good teams. The serious nature of the competition provides the opportunity for young curlers to compete in serious games against teams from around the GTA which will prepare them for this type of game environment if they wish to continue in competitive curling. Experienced (normally older) competitive Bantam teams are encouraged to participate in the TCA Junior league. The GTA Bantam League is intended to be an entertaining and fun-filled experience which allows curlers to see how good they are and prepares them for more serious curling should they choose to do so in future years. All curlers must be under 16 years of age as of December 31 of the current curling season.
